Minority Grants
"...I'm so distraught over numerous issues in my life I don't know where to turn. At 34 years of age, you think life would be
different and dreams you have had accomplished.  Unfortunately, some situations are beyond you're control and life takes a turn
on you. I decided to see if there is such thing as a minority grants.  Let me begin by giving a brief history of why I need
assistance. This is the second time in 8 years that I've been unemployed for a length of time. The first was in June of 2004 and
lasted for almost four years. When I lost the last position I had, I couldn't believe this was happening again. With our economic
situation, it didn't look good and has proven to be true. Last June, I was so distraught, that I fell into a major depression and
ended up attempting suicide.  I was hospitalized for a few days and am receiving counseling to assist me in dealing with this
difficulty. I am consistently applying for positions. Unfortunately, I am consistently being told "I am over qualified for the
position", "I don't have the correct qualifications", or "I was hesitant to bring you in for an interview because of your past
experience." Even with these responses and consistently receiving letters in the mail stating they have chosen another individual
for the position, I keep trudging forward - hoping things will turn around for me..."

Receiving my bachelor's degree will provide the credentials needed to advance my career. I live in Texas which currently has over
a 9% unemployment rate and the income from my current job is not enough to cover my basic living expenses (i.e. rent, fuel,
gas, etc.). However, completion of my degree will open doors of advancement for a better paying job and long-term career..."
