Mueller is totally in the play of the life forces. She has no "image" which is difficult
to understand because she impresses one primarily by her individuality. But this
individuality is not easy to grasp in a static state - even in this state it is striving for
dynamics.
This special constancy does not simply unite all her characters; it makes them
different images of a single face. A face which required, in order to reveal its
essence, the fantastic combination of the Bacchante's searing passion, Odette's
enlightened sorrow, Kitri's intense love of life, the Rose's heady feelings, and
Carmen's fierce love of freedom.
All this makes it difficult to say in a few words in which role the ballerina's artistic
personality reveals itself most fully. It reveals itself in the Bacchante, in Juliet, in
Raymonda and in Odette-Odile.
The constancy of her face, her true self defies definition.
